Twitter makes late-night tweeting easy
Twitter has finally introduced a much-hyped feature, Night mode. Yesterday, the micro-blogging website came under the limelight as it announced the launch of its highly anticipated night mode feature on Android platform.
For the unfamiliar, the night mode allows users to change the interface from the white background to dark. The company tested the dark-mode feature on a select few users over the past few months.
Twitter users can now see whether they received the new Night Mode feature or not. You must tap on your profile icon in order to bring up the settings menu. You would be able to turn the slider on and off when the Night Mode is enabled. However, if you don’t like the night mode feature, you probably just want to turn off the slider and leave it that way. The company rolled out the feature with the aim to make late-night tweeting easier for its users.
The Night Mode is not really black, but it is dark blue in color. The night mode is much darker than its white user interface that is the default setting for the website. Users prefer to see a black-colored display screen in night mode, especially those who have AMOLED display screens, as it helps them save the device’s battery life.
Twitter has made quite a few changes to its platform in its efforts to offer an improved experience to users. Earlier this week, the company announced the finalization of a partnership deal with Major League Baseball (MLB) and National Hockey League (NHL) which will help it provide in order improve its live streaming platform. Also, the company recently rolled out a new feature that allows users to verify their accounts and get a blue tick trademark beside their names.
In its blog post, the company stated that it will verify accounts “maintained by public figures and organizations in music, TV, film, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business, and other key interest areas.”
Interestingly enough, users don’t need to update their Twitter app in order to experience the dark-mode feature. The company has refused to disclose the date to release the feature on the iOS platform. However, iOS users have the option to use Apple’s feature, Night Shift that allows you to change your display screen’s color at night.
Twitter is faced with tough competition in the social media industry, due to the presence of its main rival, Facebook. The latter boasts of 1.6 billion monthly active users (MAUs) in contrast to Twitter’s 310 million MAUs. The micro-blogging website has experienced an almost 50% plunge in its stock, although it was able to regain 7% in the last three months.
Twitter has been facing a difficult time in attracting users and increasing user engagement. In any case, the night mode has been a highly requested feature by the users of micro-blogging website. However, if it is to compete with the likes of Facebook, the company must take-on a major revamp to catch up with the former’s MAUs.
